    , on the exhaust oilafmnd just before the turbine. The idea behind a wastegate is to prevent the turbo from boosting too high. Putting it there allows it to vent excess boost accurately (it sees what the turbo sees), while still allowing the turbo to maintain it's peak desired boost level. Think of it like a controlled leak that prevents you from blowing up a balloon so much that it pops. (Posted on 4/17/12)

    To be honest, with an NA gneine, you don't need one. The reason why it is a good idea to have one in a turbo charged car is that if you have a synthetic oil, the rapid cooling of the oil caused by switching the gneine off straight away after a long run can cause the oil to calcify. Turbo's don't tend to last too long if that happens! (Posted on 4/17/12)
