If you’re building an engine using previously used parts, looking to make a numbers-matching engine, saving money on repurposing factory parts, or simply looking to see which parts work together, CarTech Books has a great resource for the budget-friendly builder.
CarTech’s Workbench series format takes you step-by-step through the entire rebuilding process, from identification and selection, disassembly, cleaning, parts analysis and assessment, machine shop tips, replacement parts selection, re-assembly techniques, and start-up/break-in. There are also tips on performance upgrades, trouble spots to look for, special tools needed, and builder’s tips.
At first I was inclined to say that most seasoned enthusiasts and professional builders are beyond the scope of this book. But I've seen what often passes as traditional or period correct and in light of that I wholeheartedly recommend it, especially to those who've convinced themselves that they know it all.
